Train Your Own Service Dog

INNERSIGHT is starting a new program to help disabled individuals train their own service dog. While there is currently no funding available to assist in self-training service dogs, we feel that there are multiple benefits to this cause. In addition to forming a closer bond with your dog, you are able to choose the breed that works best for your needs and train it for your specific lifestyle and disability. Innersight is currently working to raise money for this noble and worthwhile cause that is bound to improve the lives of disabled individuals throughout the world.

Some of the advantages of training your own service dog include:

• Pick out the breed dog that you prefer
• Better bonding with the dog
• Train the dog to fit your specific lifestyle and disability
• Keep the dog with you while it's being trained, which is your legal right

Innersight knows that service dogs are in high demand and training your dog on your own eliminates your time spent on a long waiting list. You are no longer dependent on an association that may be unable to provide you with immediate service. One of the benefits to the community is it takes a big financial burden off the public and puts the disabled person in control of their own life. Not only will a disabled individual build a life with a devoted companion, but the cost of that companion no longer falls to the general population.

While training your own service dog can be costly, the benefits are tenfold. Innersight understands this cost can be a burden to some, so we have begun campaigning to raise awareness of self-trained service dogs and to raise money to assist you. The ballpark sum is anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000 to train the dog, including professional evaluation to make sure the animal is service material and/or qualified. And you don’t need to worry – Innersight will be with you every step of the way, offering guidance and support. Training your own service dog could be the most beneficial and rewarding experience of your life.
